“Passionate, Which Can Be Good or Bad”

“Passionate, which can be good or bad.” Those are the words William J. Adams Jr., or Billy – as everyone calls him – chose to describe himself. While he was only expected to give one word, Billy, as he usually does with his clients, decided to provide more than what he is asked for.

Originally from Stoughton, Billy has spent his entire life in the outskirts of Boston. And as a good local, he is a passionate supporter of the Patriots, the Red Sox, the Bruins, and the (hopefully) next NBA Champions: the Celtics. But this passion for sports goes back to his high school years, where he was Captain of the Wrestling Team and finished 3rd in the State within his weight class.

After graduating high school, Billy decided to attend Plymouth State University, in New Hampshire, and major in Business Management Information Systems (maybe one can see a connection now with ACS). 4 years later, in 1996, he enjoyed the traditional hat toss before joining his dad, Bill Adams Sr., who had founded ACS in 1985. Billy Jr.’s entrance meant that ACS had doubled its number of employees, as they transitioned from only Bill Sr., to both Bill Sr. and Billy Jr.

Since Billy’s entry in 1996, he has built an incredible family with his two sons, the oldest attending Fordham University in New York, and the youngest soon to embark his college career in Providence. As a father above everything else, Billy misses everything about his kids, from boating in the summer to watching them play sports; in essence, Billy now has (unfortunately) lots of more free time. And as one would expect, he is devoting this new “free” time to his third child: ACS.

Reminder: Billy is a father above everything else.

Having met Billy for less than two months, it is inevitable to notice his naturality. Always with a smile and ready to get going, Billy is that person who one would call to comment on the Celtics’ last game, to ask for a recommendation, or to simply grab a beer. “Passionate, which can be good or bad,” has been his driving force for the close to 30 years in the cybersecurity industry. The dream Bill Sr. envisioned, and which Billy Jr., has managed to make a reality is what makes him wake up every morning ready to “eat the world.”

While the conversation was intended to not touch on anything strictly professional, I inevitably had to ask the typical “what makes ACS better than the rest?” The answer: “We pick up the phone.” In a time where reaching a customer support agent takes five “elevator” songs, three AI-made voices, and a large combination of numbers and asterisks, it is very refreshing to hear that when things go south, Billy picks up the phone. Why does he do this? Because he is passionate, which while Billy humbly says can be good or bad, is obviously an excellent quality to have.
